Angular shape, thick body, a relatively large mass, integrated graphics - apparently EliteBook 8470p does not seem to be an attractive laptop with a screen diagonal of 14 ". But maybe the reality is different and what justifies its high price?

CONSTRUCTION:
It is difficult to see any changes compared to its predecessor (8460p), but their absence can be considered as an advantage. Angular and massive EliteBook 8470p case has its original charm. The silver aluminum on the lid and bottom panel with black bottom makes 3.5 cm thick notebook look more soft. It's a popular . way to design nowadays. The same abought it's weight. 2.4 kg makes this laptop not too heavy.
However, it will be difficult to find as solid notebook as Hp EliteBook 8470p is. Omnipresent aluminum and magnesium provides a dream stiffness. There is no place that flexes or fails under pressure. 8470p gives the impression of a monolith. Semi-rugged and rugged laptops will be better for throwing, but HP can cope military standards for factors such as vibration, moisture or temperature.
EliteBook is also well-made and it's left side of the screen is slightly skewed. Also battery slack is a good solution. Further strengthening elements are stability metal tabs holding the lid in the closed state. Today, they are dying relic of the old days. To open the laptop, just press the button on the front edge of the case, which releases the lock. Then hinges will allow to open the bos with just one hand to an angle of up to 180 degrees. And no matter what happens the screen won't change it's position unless you will use your own hands to do it.
PERFORMANCE:
Hp EliteBook 8470p gives you a huge amount of versions. Hp uses a wide range of dual-core Intel processors, hard drives of different capacities and different functions (including encryption), and integrated or independent graphics cards. B6Q14EA version is equipped with a Intel Core i5-3360m CPU with integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000, 4GB of RAM and hard disk drive with 500 GB capacity.
Parameters of i5-3360m demands respect. CPU clock is 2.8 GHz and in Turbo Boost mode - up to 3.5 GHz. For this processor Intel gives you 3 MB Intel Smart Cache memory, the ability to count four threads simultaneously (Hyper-Threading), and a TDP of 35 W.
Crossing the magic mark of 4000 points for the CPU in 3DMarku06 (actually 4010) and reaching 3.28 points in Cinebench R11.5 64, i5-3360m is proving to be one of the most powerful dual-core mobile units. The advantage over the basic i5-3210m is in synthetics more than ten percent.
Graphics merged with the processor, in this particular model, runs at clock speeds of 650 MHz to 1.2 GHz. It might not be ideal for gaming and processing 3D graphics, but it will deal with any other task. Moreover, 4643 points in 3DMarku06 and 584 in 3DMark11 tests allow us to think about the occasional projects. Even more, this is the first system from Intel, which completes all SPECviewperf 11 tests and it supports DirectX 11.

NOISE:
Changing the BIOS allows fan to keep quiet for long periods, even when the computer is connected to the network. You can hear only the hard drive when you do this. Fortunately, Toshiba's product is a quiet thing and it oscillates close to 32 dB.

HP Business models are offered with different batteries. The EliteBook 8470p offers three 100 watt (protruding from the back), 62 watt and 55-watt. Before anyone starts to complain that the test configuration has the smallest capacity battery, let me add that this is the only battery which is 'Long Life'. Instead of the standard one-year, it is covered by the three - year warranty, such as the laptop.

SUMMARY:
This thick and heavy "fourteen" is produced in 2013? For that much money you get no great graphics card and fantastic screen? Certainly the screen is a little bit disappointing, despite it's mat and increased resolution. But HP EliteBook 8470p is not about graphics.
What counts is an excellent quality, good cooling, easy service, and many more options in the BIOS. The processor is really powerful. You also pay for a wide range of the security options, less common ports, docking ability and for that that you can connecti additional batteries. In my opinion the HP EliteBook 8470p is worth it's price. Especially that the price includeds 3-year warranty.
